Scholarship winners for 2011:

The 2010-2011 school year was a time of honoring achievements at North Tapps Middle School.  Amid the excitement of moving another exemplary class of 8th graders out into the real world of high school and selecting two scholarship winners for the Dieringer Education Foundation, we also celebrated the retirement of our long time beloved principal of NTMS, Mr. Pat Keaton.  This year one of our winners, Rachel Davey wrote about how Pat Keaton had influenced her life:

Mr. Keaton has positively influenced my life.  I admire his commitment to his job.  First of all, a principal’s job isn’t easy.  He has to take care of all of the disciplinary problems at North Tapps Middle School.  He lifts students up when they are down with a kind word or action.  He comes to all of our school sport events –heck sometimes he even refs them!  He attends all the PTA and after-school meetings.  He has helped thousands of kids through their early teens.  I admire his energetic personality, his kindness, and his loyalty to North Tapps Middle School.  He has always told my class that he wanted to end his career on a good note, and I am glad that he chose us. This scholarship award should be named after Mr. Keaton to honor his dedication.  After all, Mr. Keaton is North Tapps Middle School.

The Dieringer Education Foundation Board couldn’t agree more with Rachel Davey.  Henceforth, the Dieringer Education Foundation Scholarship has been renamed The Pat Keaton Community Scholarship.  We appreciate all that you have given and continue to give to the Dieringer Community.  Congratulations Pat Keaton!  Thank You!  We would also like to express a sincere welcome to the new principal of NTMS, Nate Salisbury.

We are Pleased To Introduce:

2011 Pat Keaton Community Scholarship Winners

Working in conjunction with our NTMS 8th grade language arts teacher, Erika Sage, each student in the 8th grade filled out and submitted an application for the Foundation scholarship. Each student reflected on their efforts in community service, extracurricular activities, work experience, personal conduct in school, and even wrote a brief essay. The Dieringer Education Foundation committee reviewed each application and selected 20 students to continue the application process. Each of the twenty students selected were asked to submit 2 letters of recommendation from adults outside NTMS. From those 20 students, the committee selected 10 students to proceed to the interview phase. A powerful experience for both students and the committee, we were pleased to meet so many articulate and deserving 8th grade middle school students. From those ten interviews, two students were chosen.
